Kitchen Remodeling | Top Layouts for Your Brand New Kitchen
Kitchen remodeling is exciting, but also a massive project that you have to get right the first time. Once your kitchen remodeling project is completed, changing your mind about the layout is going to be impossible or extremely costly to change. If you’re getting ready to start designing your floor plan for your brand-new kitchen, make sure you know about these most popular layout options.
- Pullman Kitchen or One Wall Layout- This layout is exactly how it sounds—the kitchen exists along one wall. The Pullman or One Wall kitchen is ideal for studio apartments or tiny spaces. Some layouts will incorporate an island or breakfast bar that extends from the perpendicular wall.
- Galley Kitchen- The galley style kitchen is also called a walkthrough kitchen because it is characterized by the ability to walk right through the middle of the kitchen. Galley kitchens usually feature two opposing walls with a narrow walkway between them. Galley kitchens are popular in smaller home and apartments.
- L Shape- The L Shape design maximizes your kitchen corner space and works well for most size kitchens. The countertops in an L shaped kitchen run along two walls that are perpendicular to each other, meeting at the corner. Most people choose 12-15 feet for the length of the countertops on each side. These kitchens are great for low traffic homes and can support a small dining table or island.
- Horseshoe- The horseshoe layout features three walls of used kitchen space but can also be an L-shaped kitchen with a kitchen island where the island is the center of the action in the kitchen, and the traffic flows around it. When the island is connected to the L Shape layout, some kitchen remodeling contractors refer to this layout as the peninsula design.
