Kitchen Remodeling | Kitchen Remodeling: Side Projects You Can Do

Kitchen Remodeling | Remodeling your kitchen can be a big job, especially if your renovation includes expanding or subtracting space, moving appliances and other difficult tasks. Sometimes when you are already doing a project so big, it makes sense to use the time to get a few other side projects you’ve been meaning to do, done. There are some super easy projects that you can DIY or ask your contractor to add onto his bid.

1. Adding on A Deck or Patio: Depending on where your kitchen is at in your home, consider installing an exterior door to the backyard and adding on the deck or patio you have always dreamed of having. You can add on a deck or patio any time of the year, but doing so with your kitchen remodeling project can save you time and money. Buying materials in larger quantities can sometimes earn a discount, so you want to make sure you are purchasing supplies at the same time for multiple projects and do them all together.

2. Creating an Open Concept: You’re already tearing down the cabinets, why don’t you go ahead and knock down the wall and build that open concept living room and kitchen you’ve always wanted? If you don’t want to get rid of the wall altogether, you can install a breakfast bar on the other side of the counter so that you can still see through to the living room.

3. Replace ALL the flooring: If the flooring guys are already going to spend a day or two redoing the kitchen floor, you might as well replace the flooring in other rooms too. Some homeowners like flooring to be consistent so if you’re going hardwood in the kitchen, you might want to think about pulling up the old, worn carpet in the living room and going with hardwood in there too.

Renovating and updating a home adds value to a house, both monetary and sentimental. Talk to your contractor about other quick projects you can add to your kitchen remodeling!
